Establishing a Client Relationship. When we are contacted by a prospective client, we carry out an internal conflict check before accepting the matter, based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests). If we are able to accept the matter, contact information is registered — for private clients under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract), and for commercial clients under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. We also carry out a mandatory client identification check under the Norwegian Anti-Money Laundering Act, pursuant to Article 6(1)(c) GDPR.
Matter Management. Some matters involve accessing personal data about parties or other individuals affected by a case. Processing for commercial clients is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Where we access sensitive personal data, the basis is Article 9(2)(f) GDPR, see section 11 of the Norwegian Personal Data Act.
File Retention. We retain case files for 10 years following the conclusion of a matter, in accordance with section 36 of the Norwegian Lawyers Act. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) and Article 9(2)(f) GDPR.
Client Administration and Billing. Time and disbursements are recorded in our accounting system. Contact details are used for invoicing. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR for commercial clients and Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for private clients.
Marketing. We may send newsletters by email to existing clients and others who have requested them. Recipients may unsubscribe at any time. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR where the address was received in connection with a legal engagement, or consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR otherwise.
Website Analytics and Cookies. Our website may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect anonymised data about how visitors use the site. Non-essential cookies are only placed following your consent. You may withdraw consent at any time through your browser settings or our cookie settings.
IT Operations and Security. Personal data in our IT systems may be accessible in connection with system maintenance and security measures. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) and Article 6(1)(c) GDPR.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. We may share data where necessary with: intellectual property offices (Patentstyret/NIPO, EUIPO, WIPO, and other national or regional offices); counterpart attorneys and agents in the same matter; IT service providers acting as data processors under appropriate agreements; and legal or regulatory authorities where required by law.
Our primary technology providers are Microsoft 365 (email and document storage) and Fiken (accounting). For transfers outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
